My inquiry project was focused on how to explicitly teach the claim evidence reasoning framework to scaffold student’s skills at scientific literacy through a variety of methods, including lab discussions, class debates, and papers. And through these various methods to drawing on the importance of explanation and argumentation in science. To assess students’ ability to construct scientific explanations, I used both the base explanation rubric for quantitative data and observations and background knowledge as a scientist as qualitative data.
